Here is an example of how our phonics recap sessions work in year 2. We are revisiting Phase 5 sounds and consolidating Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds every week. We use our phonics skills in our daily guided read sessions where we develop our decoding, prosody and comprehension skills. We have been enjoying reading a wide range of texts as part of our guided read sessions.

Home work for this half term.
Each half term we send home work that the children can complete if they would like to. This supports their learning in class. Please send any work in to school on paper or take photos and email them to our class emails. We love to see what the children have been learning at home as well as at school.
Below is our home work guide for this term.
Maths
In Year 2 we have a Maths focus on number bonds to 20 and our 2,5 and 10 times tables. Regular practise helps the children become fluent and confident which will then support them as they build their Maths knowledge through the school. Please click the link to see ways to support your child at home.
Times Tables Rock Stars
Every child has a log in for TTRS where they can practise their multiplication skills and take part in school challenges. Please ask your class teacher if you need a reminder of your password.

Ukuleles
Leicestershire School’s Music Service visit Year 2 weekly to teach us all how to play a ukulele. The children have been learning how to strum, tune and play simple tunes or rhythms on the ukuleles. They have learnt the parts of the Ukulele and love singing alongside their playing. The children have enjoyed our music sessions and continue to develop their musical skills each week.

Science
This term we will be learning about dental hygiene. Please see the poster and share the tips with your child to ensure they are looking after their teeth and brushing correctly.
Purple Mash
Every child in Sacred Heart Leicester has a login username and password to access the website ‘Purple Mash‘. The website address for our school is: www.purplemash.com/sacred-le5
This website contains useful resources not just for Computing, but for other subjects such as Maths and English as well. When your child has logged in, they may access work set by the teacher in their 2Do area. This is a red button on the top right of the page. An image below shows where to find this. The class teacher will be able to see what children have completed, and how they got on once the work is saved.
Pleas encourage your child to use this resource at home to extend their learning opportunities.
