Writing at Sacred Heart
At Sacred Heart, we hold English in high regard, taking account of many children’s low starting point on entry, recognising its vital importance in education and society. Our focus on writing empowers pupils to articulate their thoughts, ideas, and emotions with clarity and confidence. We equip students with the skills necessary to express themselves effectively, thus fostering meaningful communication.
Writing nurtures creativity and critical thinking, enabling pupils to explore diverse perspectives and engage with various topics. A rich vocabulary, developed through a breadth of reading, enhances their writing, allowing for deeper engagement with the subject matter. Through practice, they learn to structure their ideas coherently, laying a strong foundation for their future academic and personal endeavours.
We are committed to ensuring that every pupil develops proficient writing skills, vital for active participation in society. By prioritising writing alongside reading, we strive to cultivate not only competent communicators but also informed individuals who can engage thoughtfully with the world around them. At Sacred Heart, fostering a love for writing is central to our educational mission.
We follow the Wordsmith scheme of work including extra texts to ensure the children receive a diverse range of texts.
